Planner Nerd Layout

Hello, Planner Friends! I hope you're all having a wonderful week.

I've really been getting in to the vertical planning groove lately and experimenting with layouts and how I set-out my page.

The April Planner Nerd "Brights" kit was SO much fun to work with because the colours are just so cheerful!

Along my vertical planning journey so far I've come to learn a few things about myself as a planner - I don't preplan a huge amount, although I do have a few things that happen every week. I definitely plan on the go more, and that's useful to me. I know that I like to have checklists (if I want anything to get done at all, I need checklists), but too many becomes overwhelming. I love pretty pictures and stickers in my planners, so decorative boxes are my favourite, but using them in moderation to aid functionality is still something I'm working on.

What have you learnt about yourself as a planner recently?

As always, I'd love to connect with you and chat all things planning. You can find me on Youtube and Twitter

Until next time, happy planning!
Stef xx

Journal with me - Everyday life even if it is boring!

Today I am sharing with you a 'journal with me' - an in process video of a couple of journal pages. In this video I talk about journalling the every day even when you think it is boring or not journal worthy! I have discussed this topic before on my channel and you might also want to check out these videos out. I will post them below after this video.

If you would like some inspiration on keeping a journal then why not check out this playlist I have compiled. It consists of my videos and my favourites I have found on my journey. I have embedded the playlist below for you to start watching or you can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3wWM4Ekc9k7cPNCgW5UXTJ_yZOJUIEt0

Grace's Planner Brights/Planner Con Projects

This month I was super excited to receive the Planner Nerd Brights stickers as my D.T. package, as I will be off to Cambs Planner Con in a few short weeks! So I already had the matching stickers that came with my ticket to the event, and now had loads of Planner Nerd stickers to use!

I started by decorating the week of Cambs Planner Con in my personal size planner - I rarely decorate in advance so it felt a little weird but I really like how it turned out.

I did, admittedly, add stickers from my planner con kit, but it's mostly stickers from this month's club. There will be a Plan With Video published on my YouTube channel for this, but it won't be until Sunday 15th (so it's ready for the relevant week!), so keep an eye out for that :)

Close Ups!

After this I still had plenty of stickers left over, and at first I was a little stumped at how to use them. The obvious way to use them would be journaling (or other forms of memory keeping) Planner Con, but I couldn't do that before the event! So I had an idea - decorate a little notebook to pass around at planner con, asking people to sign it, and have that to keep as a memento of the day.

Here's a close up of the front page so it's easier for you to read the text:

I also used more stickers from the kit to decorate some of the pages inside:

So if you're going to be at Planner Con 2018, please keep an eye out for my little book! As the blurb says, I'd be ever so grateful if you signed it!

Of course, this kit isn't just for Planner Con attendees, most of us are Planner Nerds in some form, and these are perfect for anyone who enjoys "jammin' on their planner" :P

Thanks so much for reading!

Getting back into the swing of things

Hiya Brimblers!!

Phew! The last couple of weeks have been so hectic for me, for one reason or another and sadly I have all but abandoned my art and journaling and if I'm truthful I haven't been doing much planning either!

It is true what they say about the imagination/brain being a muscle, in that if you don't use it, you lose it. I've been slowly getting my paints, papers and brushes back out but I'm feeling uninspired and very rusty, even several hours lost on Pinterest haven't helped much. I've mostly been reference working and failing to produce anything original. It'll come in time I hope!!

That said I have been making good use of the travel journal I commissioned from Steph at Scurry and Peck. It's just the perfect size for sticking in my handbag and whipping out whenever there is lull in goings on. A couple of weekends back J and I took a round trip from Manchester down to Aylesbury for a wedding cake tasting (omg so good!) and we pulled into the service station for a quick stop to refuel the car and ourselves. Whilst J stretched his legs I took the opportunity to get my journal out, there happened to be a bush in front of where we parked and I loved the textural differences so I tried to capture it.

Back in February in Anna's 'Doodling about you' Patreon video she explores the use of placing colour and building a piece around it. Well I took the fluidity aspect and sort of a spun it a little. I'm usually a stickler for painting within the lines and emphasising structure and realism. I find it quite difficult to be loose and flowing in my art, and so it feels alien to just slap dash watercolour everywhere haha. I couldn't quite keep to one or two colours but I'm happy with it!

This little guy is a reference to my nephew's 2nd Birthday card. It had a really adorable little robot holding a balloon, and I wanted to remember the day in another way than just my creative journalling. Funny, I tend to keep the two distinct and separate, I've not really considered that till now. Maybe that's something I need to work on! This time I plopped down the blue pastel watercolour (from my Prima Pastel Dreams, which I am LOVING!) first and then doodled on top. I worked over him with my waterproof pen, I missed a few joins and then got annoyed so I attempted to cover them up with some shading. It kinda works.

Lastly, since I've not been journaling/arting much recently I decided to use March's Patreon Collage sheets to create my monthly spread for April and also a weekly spread in my Erin Condren. I mostly use this planner in the house and for the stickers, haha.

It doesn't have a huge planning purpose, other than for household bits, as at the moment my planning is minimal and sticker free. I am in love with the bunny and had to use her as much as I could!

Well, that's all from me this month peeps, I hope my post next month won't be quite so light on the creative content. I'm currently cramming my time with Cambscon Stock, but I hope to be able to dedicate some more time to my creative pursuits and getting my 'creative mojo', as Anna calls it, back!

In a bit xx

More planner paint play!

This month I wanted to do something a little bit different in my planner, and a lot of my layouts featured paint.

I, by no means, have any idea of what I'm doing when I'm painting, but my planner pages are for experimenting and it's honestly so freeing when you just have a go. The final product is not as important to me as the journey it took to get there.

The paints I used are from Dylusions, as well as a white acrylic paint I had lying around.
The stickers are from Mrs Brimbles' We Go Together collection.

I love how cute the little table turned out and the pairs of foods/drinks are perfect. It definitely made me hungry all week.

For more planner inspiration, you are welcome to follow me on Youtube and hang-out with me on Instagram. I hope that wherever you are in the world, you're having a wonderful day!
Happy planning!

Shine Bright Art Journal Page

Using the tutorial by Anna on her Patreon, I had a go at the Galaxy Painting using the layered watercolour wet media technique. I chose to work with a mixture of purples and blues. I started off making sure my pages were completely wet and gently placed the brush in random spots. The wetness allowed the paint to bleed onto the page. The process itself was very relaxing as you had to work slowly.
  94CEBAF3-407D-4E00-967F-1EE6B09DC736

Typically as I have a busy home life, I had to set the page aside and come back to it. The benefit of this was that I was able to create a little bit of art during a particularly busy week. When I returned to the artwork, I quickly wet the page again. I actually did this at speed with a large brush, however I would be tempted to try a wet spray bottle to see what outcome that would give.

4B417E1A-A56B-4A4F-9810-F507FCCF58E6I then began the same process of adding colour and allowing it to dry. This process was completed around five times. As I got higher up in my watercolour layers, I started to add lighter colours to give some depth to the page.

Once dry I loved being able to see the paint layers at the edge of the painting as well as the separate tones throughout the page. To finish it, I added the words ‘shine bright’ with a gold brush pen as well as a shimmer brush pen. I also added a few stickers from Little Rainbow Moon.

Paint play on planner pages

Happy April, Planner Friends!

I continued my paint-play in my planner right up until the start of April and added in some of my favourite of the Mrs Brimbles' stamps from the Shootin' for the Moon collection. It's an oldie, but a goodie, and I haven't dragged my stamps out for a while! I also added in a Gelly Roll Stardust pen, too, which is very hard to see in the photos!

I adore all things space-related and I've been meaning to make another-space themed layout for ages, and it's a pretty neutral sort of topic and given that April is a pretty neutral kind of month for me, I figured they'd go together pretty well!

The beautiful thing about using the Dylusions paint and a baby wipe (yep, you read that right) is that it applies the paint in a thin enough layout that you can still see what's underneath. Ultimately, I don't worry too much if I cover up days or dates - it's my planner and I can figure it out - but it's a helpful technique.

The Stardust pen was a final accent just to help the stars stand out a bit more and it's beautiful and sparkly in person.

I hope that you're having a wonderful day. Keep on planning!
