Today I am continuing my experiments in the World of fluid acrylic dirty pour flip cup technique because I just can't leave it alone I am totally obsessed. I told myself after the last attempts that I would hang my hat up or at least give it a break for a while. BUT. And that is a big but...I just couldn't help myself. I still continue to find myself watching pouring videos so I had to try it again. I still have lots to learn and I am by no means an expert however I am having fun in my experiments and that is always all that counts.
I decided to customise an old Prismacolor tin. I don't keep my pencils in it but I had kept it in case I wanted to at some point. I recently acquired some more watercolour paint pans and I thought this tin would be quite a good size to store them in but of course it needed customising!
Firstly I sanded the top of my tin just to rough it up a bit and give the paint something to grip onto. I didn't bother with gesso I just went for it! I am still not getting those much coveted cells but I like how it turned out and because I used the vivid metallics it has a beautiful sheen when in the light.

Welcome to my first ever post as a ColourArte Design Team member. I am very excited to share with you my first ever project.
Whether it was the right project to start with using these amazing products I don't know but hey you have to start somewhere and I always think it is best to be you and do something that you love or that interests you because then you are being authentic. I hope you agree! I also thought that it would be a good idea to document my journey learning new materials and techniques. It is great to watch experts but that can be very daunting if you are new to something. You guys can learn along with me!
So I have discovered a love for fluid acrylic art paintings. I came accros them one evening whilst watching YouTube. OK I should have started that with a warning for you. If you don't want to loose hours of your day don't check out said videos lol! Truly I have found myself watching so many and hopping from one to another. I find them so mesmerising and some times I lie in bed with the sound off just watching paint move around a canvas. I find it very therapeutic to watch and so I decided to give it a go myself.
Now I delved in with both feet and a lot of excitement. Although that didn't result in the best that it could be (this is me comparing my work to the experts even though I shouldn't be!) I am still really happy with the results especially as this is all new to me.
So in I jumped with colours that spoke to me. I didn't use a method or a recipe I just mixed the ColourArte Pigments in with the multi surface acrylic medium (gloss enamel) until I had what resembled acrylic paint. I then diluted this down with 'The Wash Solution' to get a really fluid consistency. Now whilst that seemed to do the job as far as this beginner was concerned, that is not the product that you are supposed to us. Told you I would be learning and sharing as I went. I was in my happy place mixing up paints so I just went with it.
I mixed each colour in it's own cup. When I had all of my colours I then went about pouring the colours into just the one cup as I was going to do the dirty pour technique using the flip cup method.
Once I had my cup I then flipped it upside down onto my canvas, lifted it u p and let the paint move. I then tilted my canvas around so the paint moved around. Unfortunaltely I didn't use enough paint so I had to mix more up. I think I ended up with another two cups in the end to cover the canvas.
On the whole I am pretty pleased with this for my very first attempted. I have since been in Facebook groups and learnt more about this technique. I am quite determined to master this so I will be back again with more of this technique!
What I learned in this process is:
That I actually enjoy mixing paint - it helps me to be much more present in the moment and let go of all stresses.
It is not called dirty for fun - you will get messy so be prepared for that.
Do more research on your products.
To not care what anyone thinks and to just have fun crearing art.
You need to be OK with a bit of paint waste.
