Hello, Planner Friends! While the Northern part of the world is gearing up for Winter, here in the Southern Hemisphere, we're bracing for Summer, which has sporadically stuck it's head out a few times only to retreat behind some Spring rains. Which makes for a difficult time predicting weather, but I love Spring rains so I don't mind too much. It's also the time of year when I really think about gardening. I don't have too big a garden - just a lot of plants on my balcony - but it's nice seeing them come into flower after Winter. As a result, I've had a lot of Spring-themed planner layouts recently, and they make me so happy! This week I used the English Garden sticker bundle by Mrs Brimbles to create a fun, horizontal layout. The kit has stickers that would work for both horizontal and vertical layouts, but I really wanted to play with the illustration stickers this week, and this is the result. It's been a while since I played with a LOT of coloured washi tapes and I have to say, it was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed it. There's nothing like pops of colour to really brighten your day. I find it impossible not to look at this layout without smiling, because everything about it is so cheerful, and that's exactly what I need at this time of year when everything starts to get hectic in the lead-up to the holidays.

 

I wish I could say I had a formula to where I placed the stickers, but I honestly don't (and I'm pretty sure I break a lot of design rules, too... but hey, rules are meant to be broken, right?). I just wanted to make sure I not only had a pretty layout, but a functional one, too, with plenty of room for my to-dos and upcoming events.

 

My horizontal layouts always have eight boxes - the eight being for a 'notes' section. Which in my layouts is always more decorative than 'notes' (because that's just how I roll!), and it's position in my layout tends to fluctuate depending on how much space I need. So this week it's in the middle of the week and I really don't mind that!

Completed Planner / Diary Insert Flip Through (April - June 2018)

Today I am sharing with you a flip through of a completed planner / diary insert from April to June 2018. I mention where all of the stickers etc are from in the chat through but they are mainly from my shop. The insert is a B6 that I made and designed myself.

Grace's Bundled Up Creative Journaling

January's warm and snuggly stickers were just perfect for the beginning of the year; when it's horrible outside (well, it is for most of Europe anyway!), and all you want to do is hide in a duvet. 

Unfortunately I spent more of January wrapped in my duvet than I'd like after getting the dreaded flu! But this sticker kit was exactly what I needed to journal the event. It's always important to journal the good and the not so good!

I started by spraying the pages with a light layer of water, then adding watercolour paints and letting them blend into one another. I also added some watercolour splatters by tapping my brush over the pages.

I then added washi, both from the kit and from my stash onto the pages.

I backed my two photos with some Brimbles papers, both are the B sides of this paper, and this paper. 

Apologies for having to see my make-up-less face! But my lovely cat kept me warm while I was poorly and I managed to get a selfie with him! The flowers are some beautiful pink and white roses (one of my favourites) that my Dad got me as get well soon flowers.

I layered the stickers and some of the phrases over and around the photos, and some more in the corners of the pages, before adding my title with both hand lettering and some alpha stickers from a previous Brimbles Box.

New Year, New Pages!

Happy New Year!

It's crazy to think that January is nearly over and 2018 is in full swing, but I have to say that Anna's December Sticker Kit - My Deer You Sparkle - was the perfect set to get me going with planning in the new year.

This month I'm sharing two layouts with you - my January monthly spread, as well as a weekly layout. The inserts I use are ones that I make for myself (in Powerpoint, with tables, so it's super easy to do if you need inserts on the run) printed on 120gsm paper.

I decided to split the sticker kit into 2 sections - the more 'new years-y' stickers for the monthly layout, and the beautiful watercolour animals for the weekly layout. Both are 2018 themed, but they're different enough that it doesn't feel like repeating.

I stuck to Anna's colour palette of black, gold and white with all the additional extras, too. All the washi tapes came from my (rather sizeable, and thus very ready to be used) stash.

This week I used washi tape to divide up the boxes. I don't do this every month, because often I find it makes the page feel heavy and cluttered, but I don't mind it in this layout. The black and white colour palette for the washi tapes helps, I think and provides a nice contrast to the stickers.

I'm also a fan of having a 'heading' box - I divide each page into four, with one section for each day, plus a 'free' box that I use for heavy decorating. The position of the box has a tendency to change from week to week, and I've even been known to put it in the middle of the page!

This week, though, it's in the top left, reminding me that 2018 is all about new beginnings. No time to dwell on things past!

Autumn Bullet Journal, Art and Creative Journal Inspiration

I see a lot of posts in the planner and creative journal groups asking for ideas on using their printables, papers and creative kits. For this post I am using Anna's patreon resources (workshops, videos and printables) to give you some inspiration on how you might use them in your own planners, creative journals, art journals and on memory keeping pages.

Art / Creative Journal Page

The October printables are stunning. I created a post last week using the canvas style printables where I created a Flower Art Journal Page, so I wanted to create a smaller page spread for my creative art journal to maybe add some memory keeping to. I started by adding some watercolour and alcohol ink in Autumnal colours to the page. I then added the amazing watercolour fox printable and added some definition to this by adding a darker colour behind it. I wanted the watercolour to be a bit more abstract than my usual style, so added a few swirls and splodges in watercolour to add a bit more interest to the page.

Next I added the Autumn printable brush lettering header and painted over the white in the same colour paint I had used on the page. I added embellishments of autumnal washi tape, a cut out from a Brimbles Box scrapbook paper which I added an Autumn quote to in a white posca pen.

Lastly definition was added by drawing an outline to frame the page in brown watercolour and used the white paint pen to draw out details on the page. I love the result of the vibrant colours and that cute Mr Foxy.

Bullet Journal Autumn Page

I won an Instagram prize a few weeks ago: The Little Bullet Book, which is stunning and wanted to make a start straight away. I used Anna's Patreon Printables to accent the page and it has really made the bujo spread pop. I love how the October header sets off the page and that stag is soooo beautiful. I love how the page is simple but effective; I can't wait to get planning. I have a busy month ahead, but I get to end it all in Brussels for Plannercon Europe.

Autumn Planner Dashboard

My final make was to update one of my pocket dashboards. I used a tutorial from a UK Planner to make a dashboard pouch pocket a while back and had already added the gold spray around a flower embellishment from a Stamping Up kit. Anna's bear from the collage sheet and an acorn. I again used a white paint pen to add the Happy Autumn writing.

I love my Autumn set up and have got so much use out the September kit. It is now used in my planner, bullet journal, creative journal and an art journal. Hopefully you will be able to give some of these a go and maybe it's given you some ideas as to how you can use the collage sheets in your own planning and creative works. There are so many options, so don't hold back. printable images can be used in anything you do, you just need to go with the flow and don't overthink it. I now feel a scrapbook page coming on for my next little project.

Mind over Matter

Most days I have great ideas, loads of "to do's" that I plan to do but I ultimately fail at getting them done. I am forever saying to my husband "tomorrow I want to organize my drawers" 'this weekend I need to clean out my closet" but guess what...those days come and go without results. 

My problem is as long as I say it out loud it doesn't mean anything. I would say I am a bit of a type A person but since retiring I am a bit more relaxed about things. The problem for me lies in the fact that because I am type A and I don't accomplish these random things in my head they continue to bog up my head. A person like me that don't accomplish these goals will just go nuts at some point ha ha, cause we haven't done the things we said we were going to do. 

So I am constantly nagged in my brain of all the task uncompleted. SO for me I have to rely on "to do" list and PLAN the items in my planner. Seeing them on paper makes them a permanent task that if I do not get the chance to mark off will drive me insane. Plus its goals for the day and I always try hard to complete what I have given myself to do.

So if you are remotely like this I suggest writing down a "to do" list and then taking your planner and spreading the task out and designate them for particular days throughout the week. Therefore not bogging yourself down but giving yourself a realistic goal that you know you can meet. It will make you feel so accomplished. I know I felt defeated if I talked these task out loud and didn't get them done. 

Something about pen to paper does it for me. It makes it real and then therefore I personally set a goal for myself and make it happen. Try it sometime you will see it does make a difference. I own multiple planners so I try to designate one for my shop things and then use one for my everyday home life. You can also cross post them so that each planner is sync'd so if you do not open the other up you still have an idea of what you need to accomplish. 

Everyone has a particular system. Make your system work for you but I am telling you most people who enjoy planners are probably people who are very much like me. I personally feel I am much more disciplined using a planner. Maybe I don't need 10 of them but I switch off depending on what colors I feel are going to make me happy for a while. 

I hope this little ramble will help you get a system that works for you. We are all not perfect but we strive to make our life easier and productive and when planners came into my life I am much more focused. This post will be on Mrsbrimbles blog so please visit her blog, check out her shop!
